Proofreading
Proofreading is the final check before you are ready to let go of your creation and share your writing with the world. As such, it is a very important step to ensure that no typos and other inconsistencies in the text have slipped through unnoticed.
I have proofread a wide variety of books ranging from travel guides and academic volumes to non-fiction and manuals. My flexible fee structure means I can work within almost any budget and, thanks to my experience, I can easily adapt to your needs, stick to the brief you give me and provide a first-class service.
When returning the edited files, I attach the two documents described below.
– Notes: this list – in chronological order and easily traceable in the text – contains my comments and queries which are still unresolved and may require the author’s attention. Although I do keep in touch regularly while working on a project, this documents means that I won’t take up your time unnecessarily by asking questions which can easily be answered at a later stage.
– Style sheet: I create a House Style from scratch and ensure that this is applied throughout the proofs, so that it will be easier for the publisher (if one has been selected) to adapt it to its rules. Alternatively, should you choose to self-publish, this document will make your book stand out as a more professional volume that won't be littered with inconsistencies.
