Copy-editing
I have edited a wide variety of subjects ranging from teaching material and celebrity biographies to fiction and self-help books – and enjoyed every minute of it! My flexible fee structure means I can work within almost any budget and, thanks to my experience, I can easily adapt to your needs, stick to the brief you give me and provide a first-class service.
I can get involved in the editing process at whatever stage best suits you and, before starting any project, I like to get an idea of the level of editing required; for example, are you just looking for someone to check consistency and accuracy or do you need an editor to look at style and rewriting? I am always available to discuss your requirements and I provide regular updates while working on a project – communication is at the heart of my service.
When returning the edited files, I attach the two documents described below.
– Notes: this list contains my comments and queries which are still unresolved and may require the author’s attention. Although I do keep in touch regularly while working on a project, this documents means that I won’t take up your time unnecessarily by asking questions which can easily be answered at a later stage.
– Style sheet: although the vast majority of publishers provide their House Style, this document lists, in alphabetical order, those instances where there are discrepancies as the author has consistently used a different spelling or hyphenation that has been accepted by the in-house editor. Thanks to this document, the proofreader will be aware of those issues and won’t therefore carry out unnecessary changes; additionally, I list useful information to ensure consistency is maintained throughout the text.
